Unreal Estate by Grand Gamers Guild, is a quick card drafting game that pits players against each other to see who can build the best “Fantasy District.” Each round you can complete one of three actions; draft cards, score building cards, or play a special building card.
If you love math, this is the game for you. It is easy to just take random building cards and try to play them and get a few points. But, by using our friend math, you can optimize your score by calculating the greatest return on your drafting investment, by watching how many cards go into the “scrap pile.” Because, cards can only be scored if there is at least one of the same card type in the scrap pile, but it is smart to allow a few to make it into the scrap pile of your building type, since when you play your cards they are multiplied by the number of the same card in the scrap pile! E.g. Playing 3 Elven Treehouses multiplied by the 2 Elven Treehouses in the scrap pile to score big points!
The game is not difficult to teach new players, and play time only takes about 15 minutes to get through a game, which is comprised of several rounds. I really enjoyed the fantasy element and card designs, since I have always wanted to live in a “Halfling house”, just kidding I am too tall for that. The game has a pretty good mix of luck and strategy; allowing players to actually get better at playing the game and not just leave everything luck.
If you are looking for a good filler game or maybe something to travel with, this could be the game for you.
