Sushi Go! Review

Sushi Go! by Gamewright is a pick and pass style card game.

Sushi Go is great for introducing non-gamers to gaming and for playing in between longer games on board game night, because its playtime is about 15 minutes. The game can be played with as few as two players, but I personally recommend playing with 3 or more players, to really get the full effect of the game.

The rules are easy to learn and fun to master. After players start playing Sushi Go! they quickly discover all the different strategies, which have to constantly be adapted each round. Meaning that just because a strategy worked well one round, doesn’t mean it will work during the next round. While experienced players might have a brief advantage during the first game, it doesn’t take long for new players to catch on and make their own winning strategies. The game is also very well balanced, with every player having a fair chance of winning no matter which set of cards they try to collect. I would even say the game favors the players that are best able to adapt to the cards in play and not focus on collecting the same “winning” card set as last time.

Design wise it has a great set of cards, because of how hilariously cute they look. It also comes in a protective tin box, making it a great travel game.
